Las Calaveras

The Day of the Dead is coming and all the people in Cancun are getting ready to celebrate it.    One of these symbols, and a very emblematic one is the calavera or skull.  They are made from sugar, or chocolate and also in wood or stone. They are alway colourfully decorated and beautiful!

On the 1st and 2nd November we prepare to greet our dearly departed friends and family by preparing an altar with all kinds of treats and sumbols that remind us of them.

In Mexico we love to eat —as a matter of fact, most of our traditions and celebrations involve eating—, so edible skulls are most popular.

You can make your own sugar skulls with granulated white sugar and special moulds. Then you can put colour on them, and all sorts of decorations of your liking. The result is that, actually, not many dare to eat them!
