The fourth edition of the Cancun 5K Color Run will take place Saturday, March 5, followed by the first edition of the Cancun half-marathon on Sunday, March 6. To commemorate international women’s day through sportsmanship and a healthier lifestyle, the Cancun 5K Color Run and the Cancun half-marathon will take place on March 5 and 6 respectively. The events expect to attract around 2,000 people.
The sporting events are organized by Mas Acción, the Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Municipal Sports Institute and Westin Cancun, and expect the attendance of around 2,000 people.
Más Acción, along with the support offered by the Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Municipal Sports Institute and the Westin Cancun, are coordinating the fourth edition of the Cancun 5K Color Run. The event will begin at 4 p.m. in the Bonampak circuit where thousands of attendees can choose to run or walk during the event. Prizes for winners will consist in stays, day passes and spa treatments at the Westin Cancun hotel.
On Sunday, March 6, the celebrations for International Women’s Day will continue with the first edition of the Cancun half-marathon. This event will begin at 6 a.m. and participants will be allowed to choose between two different races: the 21k and 10k, both supervised by the Mexican federation of athletic associations.
The official start of the half-marathon is scheduled for 7 a.m. at Bonampak Avenue, located by the entrance of the Cancun pier. Race package giveaways will be handed out at the Plaza de la Reforma on Saturday, March 5th between 12 – 7 p.m. Participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt and health services such as water stations, recovery zones, access to doctors, electronic timing chips, and a special medal to celebrate all women.
“These events aim to encourage women to practice sports and ultimately allow them to find the confidence, strength and passion they require to become better women,” said the organizing committee.
The half-marathon will offer four age categories available for both men and women, including: 18 – 39; 40 – 49; 50 – 59; and 60 and over. The maximum capacity for the race will be a thousand participants and the prizes will consist in stays, day passes and spa treatments at the Westin Cancun hotel for the first, second and third place winners of each category.
The registration fee for the 5K Color Run costs between 250 and 300 Mexican pesos (around $13 and $17 USD), while the half-marathon will range between 250 to 370 Mexican pesos (around $13 and $21 USD) for the 10K, and between 300 to 450 Mexican pesos (around $17 and $25 USD) for the 21K. A percentage of the registration proceeds will go to Ciudad de la Alegria foundation to help with their philanthropic programs.
The awards ceremony will take place on the same day the event ends and prizes and trophies will be given to winners of both races.
