The Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau reports one of the most successful Spring seasons ever, marked by world-class events and high occupancy rates welcoming over 2 million visitors.
During the past four weeks, families and students alike selected Cancun as the ideal destination to enjoy beautiful beaches, nightlife, adventure and culture. National visitors from all parts of Mexico and international tourists from the United States, Canada and beyond attributed to 100% occupancy rates in certain hotels in the area.
“Easter week was incredibly successful for Cancun, with more than 500 daily flights at Cancun International Airport and an approximate 90% occupancy rate,” said Jesus Almaguer, CEO of the Cancun CVB. “Cancun remains the top international destination for North American tourists and continues to meet and exceed expectations in terms of service and the general appeal of this full-fledged destination.”
Events like Oasis Dance U brought together a variety of performers from the worlds of electronic music, hip hop and dance as well as top DJs from around the world that attracted thousands of vacationing college students and other audiences.
Entertainment options throughout the season also included the Cancun Riviera-Maya Wine & Food Festival, which sold close to 5,000 tickets during the four days of wine seminars, mezcal tastings, cooking demonstrations, networking parties and product offerings at the American Express Gourmet Tasting Village. With 33 featured chefs and 50 participating wineries, the success of this year’s festival has foodies and wine lovers excited to come back to the destination.
This anticipated festival will celebrate its third edition on March 13 – 16, 2014, including 26 events in five Cancun locations. Confirmed chefs for 2014 include Federico Lopez (Mexico), Guillermo Gonzalez Beristain (Mexico), Daniel Vezina (Canada), Normand Laprise (Canada) and Aquiles Chavez (Mexico.)
With 3.8 million tourists visiting Cancun in 2012, the success of this spring season is an indication of what is to be expected of an exciting 2013. The destination’s pristine beaches, ancient Mayan culture, award-winning gastronomy and endless adventure options continue to thrill visitors and welcome them back to Cancun year after year.
