Xcaret Unique Dolphin Swim with mother and baby dolphins

a dolphin kissIn February Xcaret launched a unique dolphin swim experience ‘Xcaret Unique Dolphin Swim’ where visitors will have the opportunity to swim with both mother and baby dolphins.

With 17 years of experience, excellent veterinary care, scientific investigation and training, Delphinus Xcaret has become the best reproduction centre for dolphins in the whole world.  During 2008, 11 healthy baby dolphins were born, with 100% survival rate.  These figures are unprecedented at a world level.  In 2009 they are expecting another 11 baby dolphins.

Dolphins are marine mammals and have a gestation period of 12 months.  They are reared by their mother for 2 years and reach adulthood at 7 years.

The ‘Xcaret Unique Dolphin Swim’ is an interactive program with mother and baby dolphins.  The natural curiosity of the dolphins together with their playful nature make this an unforgettable experience.  It begins with an explanation about the dolphins and a vist to the maternitay zone to show the different stages of development of the baby dolphins.  You then get into the water where you will be with some of the mother with their babies.  During this stage the interaction is basically with the mothers while the babies play and learn alongside them.  The swim lasts for one hour and there are groups of a maximum of 6 people and 4 dolphins; two mother and two babies between 10 months and 2 years old.

The purpose of this program is to learn to respect the integrity and life of dolphins so we can learn to live with each other in harmony.

‘Xcaret Unique Dolphin Swim’ is the only place in the world you can experience this.  It will leave each participant with beautiful lifelong memories.
