Three Extraordinary Manatees Arrive at Xel-Ha

Manatees, also known as sea cows, are large marine mammals that can weigh up to 2000 lbs and measure up to 12’ long. Similarly to whales, their enormous bodies can only be supported in an aquatic environment. On land, their body weight would crush their own internal organs. These animals can live to be 70 years old.

A recent article produced after the ‘World Environment Day’ reported that in Xel-Ha, Cancun an impressive 96,000 liters of water are recycled daily to water the plants and green areas.  During the High Season this figure increases to an average of 130,000 liters per day which are recycled and used for irrigation.

In Xel-Ha, Cancun they are also looking at ways to reduce the water consumption of the visitors and have managed to reduce this by half in just two years!

‘A New Look for an Ancient World’

The Cancun Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB), the Mexican Tourist Board and Thomas Cook Holidays  have teamed up to promote Cancun Mexico as a prime holiday destination for Britons.

Cancun Mexico has an underwater world made up of a network of cenotes just waiting to be explored by the adventurous diver. 

Cenotes are often referred to as lagoons and ponds.  They were of great value to the early inhabitants of the Yucatan Peninsula as they were a source of fresh water and were regarded as mystical.  Cenotes are interconnected fresh water wells formed by the erosion of underground rivers by rain water. It is thought that some formed before the last Ice Age (over 25,000 years ago).
